Workshop 6: Understanding the motivation puzzle in times of change
About this workshop
“I’ll do it (insert the task, the exercise, the diet, applying for the grant) when I feel more motivated”. The magic quest for motivation, waiting for it to be delivered to your doorstep means action paralysis. This workshop focuses on Do the Thing and the motivation will follow. Understanding what motivation is and isn’t, learning what has worked for you in other circumstances to get you moving and how to tackle the days when inertia stops you in your tracks.
Host and Co-Facilitator
Professor Retha Wiesner, WiRE Program Director, Institute for Resilient regions, University of Southern Queensland.
Presenter and Facilitator
Rachelle Hampson, Psychologist and Wellness Coach @ The ChangeMakers
Rachelle Hampson has worked in private practice as a psychologist for the past 18 years and as a consequence of wearing out her saggy brown counselling chair she wants to stand up more and talk to the masses. Rachelle is also a university qualified Wellness Coach which means she works with her favourite group (busy professional women) who are struggling with stress, anxiety and burnout seen as lack of energy, weight gain, insomnia, chaos and overwhelm in any and every aspect of their lives (AKA their physical health, emotions, financial chaos, relationship neglect, home space clutter, career discontent). She helps find your mojo, get YOU on your TO-DO list at least, with the aim to have YOU at the top of the list. Essentially, she teaches you how to feel #youaregoodenuf She has lots of very important pieces of paper including strangely a Master of Social Science in Criminology (from another life in law). She has been a mentor and workshop presenter for the Queensland Emergency Services for 15 years and has provided keynote speeches for wellbeing symposiums and corporate training across Queensland. Rachelle also completed the Wire Program in 2018 and not only found it invaluable she made some great like-minded friends.

Julia works with regional communities across the country on a range of projects, with the focus on identifying needs in business and implementing creative solutions to address them. Her passion lies with small businesses, sustainable agriculture and regional women in leadership.
In 2018, Julia was honoured to be one of the 100 Faces of Small Business for Queensland Government and listed as one of the Australian Financial Review 100 Women of Influence Award. In 2017, Julia won the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote business owner of the year. Julia has had her fair share of challenges along the way. Julia talks openly about how she now manages and understands her anxiety after panic attacks hit her at the end of 2014. She had more learning to do when she found cancer in her right breast at the ripe ol’ age of 38 (her 38th birthday to be exact). So motivation, staying positive and looking forward have certainly helped Julia during the darkest and toughest of times.
